Did you know that for more than aesthetic purposes, eyelashes have a protective function in our bodies? Their job is to protect our eyes from debris, dust, sand, and so on.
Unfortunately, not all of us have been blessed with long, thick eyelashes. Some of us struggle with falling eyelashes and want to find ways to grow them back if that’s even possible.
Well, it’s possible. There are ways to naturally grow eyelashes at home with just a couple of ingredients we all have. Let’s find out how to grow longer eyelashes at home.
Green tea
Green tea is made from Camellia sinensis leaves and is one of the least processed types of tea. This makes it high in antioxidants and polyphenols. This is also why green tea has numerous health benefits. Stimulation of hair growth is one on the list of those benefits.
Green tea, abundant in flavonoids, stimulates lash growth while also enhancing brain health and aiding in reducing sugar and cholesterol levels.
For eyelash growth prepare a cup of unsweetened green tea and wait till it cools off. Then use a cotton swab and apply the green tea to your lashes. After about 15 minutes, wash it off with cold water. Do this twice a day for a couple of months.
Castor oil
Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, which promotes hair growth. In addition to that, castor oil prevents dandruff and treats sunburns. It can also be used to stimulate eyelash growth. This is because castor oil is very good at fighting microorganisms that hamper growth.
Apply castor oil with a cotton swab to your eyelashes and leave it overnight. The next morning, just gently rinse your eyelashes with lukewarm water.
Coconut oil
Most of us know that coconut oil has numerous benefits for hair, from hydrating it and restoring shine to dry and damaged hair to reducing frizz and smoothing it.
But did you know you can also use coconut oil to treat thinning and damaged eyelashes?
That’s right, all you have to do is apply coconut oil to your eyelashes with a cotton swab, leave it overnight, and then rinse it off in the morning. Do this every night for a couple of months to see the changes.
Lemon peel
Lemons are packed with vitamins C, B, folic acid, and other nutrients, beneficial for skin and overall health. They can also add volume to your lashes.
Additionally, when mixed with castor or olive oil, they enhance the cleansing and stimulating properties of the oil. Results may vary, but improvements are typically noticeable after about a month of daily treatment.
Place a tablespoon of nearly dried lemon peel in a container and soak it in olive or castor oil. Let it sit for a couple of weeks. Before bedtime, apply the oil using an old mascara brush and leave it on overnight. Rinse off in the morning.
Aloe Vera
Aloe vera is for more than just sunburns and wounds. This plant has anticancer, antioxidant, antidiabetic, and antihyperlipidemic properties. This means that it can slow down breast cancer, improve blood sugar, lower cholesterol levels, and boost the immune system.
But that’s not all. Aloe vera can also support healthy hair growth, including the growth of eyelashes. If you decide to try aloe vera, you can apply some onto an old mascara wand after ensuring it is thoroughly cleaned.
The principle is similar to other remedies: leave it on overnight and rinse it off in the morning. Alternatively, you can try a mixture of aloe vera, jojoba oil, and a teaspoon of chamomile infusion and apply it directly on your lashes.
Shea butter
Yet another option you have that is rich in antioxidants is shea butter. On top of that, shea butter is rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C prevents damage caused by free radicals and promotes collagen production, resulting in thicker lashes and aiding growth.
All you need to do is take a bit of shea butter on your fingers, apply it to your lashes, and leave it overnight. Rinse it in the morning just like with all other remedies.
If all else fails
If none of the above-mentioned solutions work for you, or you’re too impatient to wait for results, don’t worry, because eyelash extensions work just fine.
Eyelash extensions are a great way to quickly deal with your problem. They come in many different lengths and are usually silk, synthetic, or mink. If you want both fullness and length, try Russian Volume lash extensions.
Of course, getting fake eyelashes doesn’t mean that you should disregard your real ones. Keep up with your home eyelash treatments regularly.
Bottom Line
When it comes to growing out your eyelashes, patience is crucial. You need to create a routine where you will regularly take care of your eyelashes and help them grow and look full again.
If patience is not your strong suit, you can always turn to lash extensions. However, don’t forget to nurture and take care of your natural eyelashes.
